Libya: Gaddafi’s Son, Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi Reiterates Readiness To Return To Libyan Politics

While Libya faces a worrying situation, including growing insecurity, Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, is preparing to return to the political scene in his country after spending six years in prison Wednesday’s “Guardian” newspaper reported.


Saif Al-Islam is already conducting a military campaign against terrorist groups in areas around Tripoli.


According to a spokesman for Gaddafi, he is in Libya. “Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi remains true to his word he gave to all Libyans in 2011, when he said he would stay in Libya to defend his territory or die as a martyr,” said the spokesman. of Gaddafi in a statement.

Saif Al-Islam has the support of soldiers who fought in Sabratha against [Da’ish], illegal immigrant gangs and oil smuggling mafias.

Known as a modernizer, Saif Gaddafi studied at the London School of Economics. He is currently accused of ordering the killing of demonstrators during the 2011 revolution, which saw the fall of his father.

Observers of the situation in Libya are not sure he is able to mobilize enough supporters. The UN envoy to Libya recently said that the son of the late Libyan president could run for election.
