In Tripoli, Libya, urged by the European Union to intercept more migrants, asked Italy to arm the coastguard’s patrol boats in order to deal with the traffickers.

In international waters off the coast of Libya, the Italian Coast Guard announced that it had coordinated the relief of 2,300 migrants on 10 wooden boats and 12 inflatable boats. They were taken care of by Italian Coast Guard ships, the European naval operation Sophia and NGOs.
