Leicester City Wins Historic ‘Fairytale’ Premier League Title

Leicester City have completed one of the most remarkable stories in the history of English football by winning the Premier League title. Written off as relegation candidates at the start of the season, when the bookmakers made Leicester 5,000-1 outsiders to be crowned champions, they secured the first top-flight title in the club’s history after Tottenham were unable to beat Chelsea on Monday night.

Spurs had to win at Stamford Bridge to extend the title race after Leicester’s point at Manchester United on Sunday. They drew 2-2, handing Claudio Ranieri’s side the prize.

Claudio Ranieri’s team ended a fairytale run that saw them escape relegation same last season to a blistering season buoyed by spirited performances at the King Power Stadium and on away fixtures.

The skipper did the same with the Championship trophy two years ago against Doncaster Rovers, but this time the eyes of the world will be watching as they take in the conclusion of one of the most incredible sporting stories ever seen.’‘

Their victory even though an overall team effort also gives extra credit to players like Jamie Vardy, Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez and goalkeeper Kasper Schimicheal who were standout players for the title winning side.

The club statement whiles hailing the historic feat also attested to the influence of the Mahrez and Vardy, ‘‘This group of Leicester City players have given the Blue Army a lifetime’s worth of memories, all rolled into one perfect season. From Jamie Vardy’s record-breaking scoring streak to Riyad Mahrez’s magic to Leonardo Ulloa’s earthquake-goal – all will go down in history,’‘ it said.
