Leicester City Football Club Confirms Owner’s Death, Four Others in Helicopter Crash

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, a Thai businessman and owner of Leicester City, died with four others after his helicopter crashed and exploded.

The tragic incident occurred after a Premier League match on Saturday, said the club and the police.

In 2010, Vichai bought the English club and won the Premier League in 2016. He bought Leicester City for about 40 million pounds in 2010 when no one bet on this English club that was then playing in the second division.

The father of four and founder of giant duty-free King Power International was highly regarded by fans of the club.



“It is with great regret and heartbreak that we confirm that our president, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, was among the people who tragically lost their lives on Saturday night when a helicopter carrying him and four other people is crushed in front of King Power Stadium, “the club said in a statement.

The plane crashed in a parking lot near King Power Stadium shortly after 19:30 GMT, about an hour after the meeting between Leicester City and West Ham United.

The British Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has sent a team of investigators to the scene.

The other victims are two members of his staff, Nursara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare, pilot Eric Swaffer and passenger Izabela Roza Lechowicz.
