North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has received a personal letter from US President Donald Trump to the content “excellent”, announced Sunday, June 23, 2019 the official Korean KCNA agency while negotiations between the two countries remain bogged down.
“After reading the letter,” Kim “said with satisfaction that her content was excellent,” KCNA said. “Marking his appreciation for the faculty of political judgment and extraordinary courage of President Trump, Kim Jong Un said he would carefully study its interesting content.”
KCNA did not give further details on the content of the missive. The White House refused to confirm Trump’s letter to his North Korean counterpart, but the South Korean presidency said it was aware of the existence of the letter.
Seoul “sees this as positive, as the dialogue between the North and the United States continues to move forward through exchanges of letters at the highest level,” said the presidency.
On June 11, Donald Trump said he had received a “magnificent” and “very warm” letter from Kim Jong Un, adding that he continued to trust the North Korean despite the lack of tangible progress on denuclearization.
