Kenya, Tanzania, Spain, Ireland, Guinea..: Barack Obama’s Name Has been Immortalized in these Places Outside the U.S.

Barack Obama arguably has to be one of the most loved and most popular presidents ever. His charm, charisma, ability to empathize and affability is second to none and is largely the reason why he is the peoples’ person.

These exceptional qualities of the former U.S. president haven’t gone unnoticed and he’s constantly being rewarded with something very priceless; his name and legacy being immortalized.

Several landmarks, facilities and even animal species, just to mention a few have been named or renamed in his honor with several others also under consideration.

To corroborate this, check out just a few among the several hundreds of things/places that have been named after the 44th President of the United States below: 

  • Aptostichus barackobamai – This spider species was named in honour of Obama.
  • Etheostoma Obama -A fish species named after him.
  • Western striolated puffbird (Nystalus obamai) – A bird species named in his honour.
  • Obamadon – A lizard species named in his honour.

Located in Kogelo, which is his father’s place of birth, the Senator Obama Kogelo Primary School and Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School was named in his honour when he was Illinois Senator.

Previously known as Ocean Road, it was renamed in honour of Obama when he visited as president in 2013.

Avinguda Barack Obama street – Valencia, Spain
There is a street in the town of Naquera in Valencia named in his honour.

Previously known as Boggy Peak, it was renamed Mount Obama on his birthday in 2009.

Barack Obama Plaza – Ireland 
Located at Moneygall in Co Offaly, Ireland, the plaza, which has a fuel station, an eatery, among others was named in honour of the ex-president. Obama’s great-great-great-grandfather was born in the village of Moneygall.
