Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara Mourns

The eldest brother of the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire died in the night of 25 to 26 April in Morocco. President Alassane Ouattara has received condolences from several of his peers, including that of Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta.

The Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs personally made the trip on behalf of Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta to extend his condolences to President Alassane Ouattara.

Sinaly Ouattara died of a long illness on the night of 25 to 26 April in Morocco. The funeral of the Ivorian president’s elder brother took place on Monday (April 30th) in Dimbokro, in the center of the country. The burial took place in the presence of Presidents Alassane Ouattara and Henri Konan Bédié, the head of the Muslim community of Ivory Coast, Cheick Aboubakar Fofana, and many dignitaries.

As President-in-Office of the West African Economic Monetary Union (UEMOA), President Alassane had to be supported by his peers. That is how the Malian president dispatched his foreign minister, Tiéman Hubert Coulibaly, on Monday.

According to the testimonies, Sinaly Ouattara was a man respected and admired by the Muslim community of Dimbokro, where he resided. Also, his younger brother, president of the republic had a great respect for him.

The one who was almost invisible on the socio-political scene, did not fail to call the sons and daughters of Côte d’Ivoire to forgiveness and patience whenever he had the opportunity to express himself in public.
