Ivory Coast: 9 Months Before the Presidential Election, Laurent Gbagbo Pulls Out His Pawns

At 9 months from the new presidential adventure, you have to take out the cards… when you’re on the hunt for power. The former Ivorian president, Laurent Gbagbo appointed, Sunday, February 16, several personalities within the permanent political council (CPP) of the Ivorian Popular Front (Fpi).

The CPP, a new FPI tool, is now operational. Its historical leader, Laurent Gbagbo proceeded last Sunday to the appointment of several executives and political personalities who will have to guide the political actions of the party. This new body created since April 2015 is now restarted in accordance with the recommendations of the Moossou congress in August 2018, we learned.

Thirty-six personalities make up the new tool chaired by Jean-Baptiste Gnahoré according to a note from Secretary General Assoa Adou. He will have a role of listening and advising, in addition to taking care of the treatment of certain political files considered sensitive that will be submitted to him by the General Secretariat or the President of the Party.

Nine months before the presidential election, the operationalization of the CPP is perceived as a strong signal sent to the Ivorian political class for a possible candidacy for the presidential election of October 31, 2020.
