The Guinness Book of Records has awarded Kristal a certificate of the world’s oldest man, last year.
Kristal survived the war – the only survivor of his large Jewish family.
He remarried and moved to Israel in 1950, where he built a family and a confectionery business.
In September 2016, he celebrated his Bar Mitzvah, which he had been deprived a century earlier. Celebrated at age 13 for boys, this ceremony marks the passage of adolescents to the religious majority.
Yisrael Kristal had not been able to celebrate his in 1916, in the middle of the First World War, because his mother had died three years earlier and his father was a soldier in the Russian army.
According to the Gerontology Research Group (GRG), the Dean of Humanity is a Jamaican, Violet Brown, born March 10, 1900.
