U.S born two sisters have used their social media platform to share their journey through medical school and residency in order to inspire others.
Patricia and Stephanie Egwuatu, who were raised in Washington, shared the same dream of being a doctor from a young age. Their father is originally from Nigeria and mother form Uganda.
Patricia is currently a second year family medicine resident at the University of Washington. Her inspiration to become a doctor came from hearing her parents talk about people in Uganda and Nigeria passing away because of inadequate healthcare.
In an Instagram post, she said: “This shaped and molded me to have the desire to provide health care in third world countries and to open access to undeserved communities here in Washington state.”
Stephanie is a second year medical student at the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences. Her pediatrician inspired her to study medicine.
In her own Instagram post, she wrote: “He showed me how it feels to touch lives as he touched mine. Now I’m following my dreams of becoming a physician.“
The two sisters share an Instagram account through which they share their inspirational posts. It’s indeed a commendable initiative.
