‘In the Long Run’: Idris Elba Creates New Comedy Based On His Childhood In London

African-American actor, Idris Elba is set to star in a new comedy called “In the Long Run,” which will be loosely based on his own childhood in London.

Elba will play the father figure in the fictional Easmon family, who had moved to London from Sierra Leone ten years previously and are settled into England. Walter, Elba’s character, works in a factory and has established a good life for his family. However, that gets turned upside down when Walter’s brother arrives in the United Kingdom as well.

“I’m really happy to be in comedy, bringing some joy into a world that needs some laughs,” Elba said. “With a great team behind it I look forward to people seeing it. “

Jon Mountague, head of comedy at Sky, said of the new series: “We’re honored to be working with Idris in what is an authentic, perceptive and deeply funny show. ‘In the Long Run’ will surprise and delight viewers.”
