Cameroonian transport minister Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o has revealed that at least 53 people have died and another 300 injured after an overloaded train derailed..
Rail officials say that the crash, which happened in Eseka, was caused after the train carried 1,300 passengers, instead of the usual 600..
Sadly, local media reports that victims are been rushed to hospitals out of town because Eseka doesn’t have good medical facility.
A Reuters journalist travelling in a wagon near the front of the train said:
“There was a loud noise. I looked back and the wagons behind us left the rails and started rolling over and over. There was a lot of smoke,”
