I will let Africa take care of itself – Yaya Toure blasts CAF after player of the year snub

Ivory Coast and Man city midfielder Yaya Toure, has labelled the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as  ‘indecent’ and ‘pathetic’ for not awarding him the African Player of the Year award.

Toure’s complaints appeared to have come from a perceived lack of recognition of Ivory Coast winning the Africa Cup of Nations back in February.
The Manchester City midfielder was pipped to the gong by Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he missed out on winning for the fifth season running.
Aubameyang, born in France to a Spanish mum but a Gabonese international, has already scored 24 goals in 23 games this campaign and collected the prestigious prize on Friday.

“I’m very, very disappointed. It’s sad to see Africa react this way, that they don’t think African achievements are important.

“I think this is what brings shame to Africa, because to act in that way is indecent. But what can we do about it? Us Africans, we don’t show that Africa is important in our eyes. We favour more what’s abroad than our own continent. That is pathetic,” he lamented.

Toure continued, claiming that even FIFA would not have come to the result.

“I’ll give an example. Messi won all the trophies, but it’s Cristiano Ronaldo who won the award [Ballon d’Or 2014]. What would you say? It’s unfair.

“Even FIFA, with all its history of corruption, wouldn’t do [what CAF judges did].

“Yaya will take care of Yaya and let Africa take care of itself. As I’ve been told many times, you can’t take care of Africa too much because Africa will be the first to let you down.

“When I return to Europe, a lot of questions will be asked. I think I’m going to have to answer them. As I’m someone who’s honest, I will always tell the truth,” he fumed.

  1. What on earth is your problem, Yaya? This guy is far, far better than you and he won the crown. QED! Stop belly aching!!

  2. So what did Ivory Coast win or Yaya Toure win in Africa to merit all the 4 previous awards? That’s my question. Asamoah Gyan was the best goal scorer both in Africa and the FIFA World Cup. So, how come Africa’s Best Player went to Yaya Toure in 2014 ?

  3. Yaya, the same people who voted you to be CAF player of the year many times are the ones who voted Gabonese player.Basically what you are saying is that this award is yours forever or there is no better player than you in Africa .you should go and ask for the criteria used to award it.You are disrespecting CAF and Gabonese player..You cry for everything and even cake.

  4. This is the mentality of African, once they have become successful, they don’t want their other fellow Africans success story to be recognised. Yaya has won this thing 4 times, by now you would think he would appreciate any upcoming African youngstar to win. Nope, simply greediness, Yaya is like a little boy sitting besides his mother when she is cooking on a fire outside whining and asking for more peanut butter to be given to him even when he just had it.

  5. what a shame, grown man, crying like a baby, its like he wants all the mables to himself and no one should have them. This is disrespect to CAF and Gabon, he should be ashamed of himself.

  6. Its bad for you to complain over an award Yaya. You won it so many times and nobody was as bitter as you are. Be humble and accept that in life everyone has his time, yours is gone

  7. I am an Ivorian and this is the type of people we’re dealing with on daly basis in Ivory Coast. People who think they deserve it all and no one else has a potential to win anything but them. This mentally is what about the political crisis in Ivory Coast. People who think like Yaya Toure in the country are at the core of the crisis. If we are not president or the awarded, then that means war. Ridiculous!

  8. I can’t imagine how stupid a professional player could be. Africa has been taken care of itself always. What did he do to Africa anyway? He has lost a merit of being African iconic since he cried for a piece of cake.

  9. yaya is a pathetic man let him continue shouting, Abumayang deserves it all. is he d only one in Africa f*** up, what has he done to care for Africa football.

  10. It is unbelivable how this Yaya can get this bitter. To me he sound as a greedy man by wanting to snach everything at every time. Anyway i just don get the point he mentioned about Messi and Ronaldo.
