Grammy Award Winning Singer Nancy Wilson, Dies at 81

Nancy Wilson, Grammy Award winning singer, known for her polished vocals, platinum selling artist has passed away.


Wilson’s manager Devra Hall announced to the Associated Press on Thursday that Wilson passed away from a long illness peacefully at her home in California.

Nancy Wilson, an accomplished musician was heavily influenced by Nat King Cole and Dinah Washington. In the 1960’s she released eight albums, all reaching Billboard’s top 20 pop charts.

Wilson often resisted being called a jazz artist, and instead called herself a “song stylist”.

In 2010, in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle she stated “The music that I sing today was the pop music of the 1960s, I just never considered myself a jazz singer. I do not do runs and — you know. I take a lyric and make it mine. I consider myself an interpreter of the lyric”.

In keeping with Wilson’s wishes according to a family statement, there will be no funeral service. Wilson is survived by three children, two sisters and five grandchildren.
