His warning comes after supporters of the former president took to the streets, demanding his return.
“If the former president decided to return to The Gambia, he would be immediately arrested and prosecuted for very serious acts, He will have to answer for the crimes he is accused of like any citizen prosecuted in this country,” said Mr. Tambadou .
He noted that after nearly a year of investigations, the evidence showed that crimes against humanity were committed during the regime of Yahya Jammeh.
“The criminals who will be identified by the Truth Commission will be prosecuted with the utmost rigor by the courts. these crimes will be tried with the utmost severity and I promise the victims that it is only a matter of time. “
Yahya Jammeh has been in exile in Equatorial Guinea since 2017 after being forced to leave the country. He has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to The Gambia.
