According to BBC, Nemo is a labrador-griffon blend and just about two-years of age. He originates from the SPA creature shelter in Hermeray and cost the president around $300.
Nemo is reportedly named after Captain Nemo, the commander of the fictional submarine Nautilus in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, as Macron is a big fan of the book. A fitting name for a dog with such an important position.
The presidential pup has already been pretty busy since being welcomed into Macron’s family. He stood by Macron’s side when he met with Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou.
BBC reports that the president and First Lady Brigitte picked Nemo up on Sunday. Nemo was previously abandoned in Tulle, in the southern Corrèze region of France, but now he has a happy home with the president’s family.
And it doesn’t look like he’s leaving Macron’s side anytime soon.
