Cardi B’s producer DJ Official has been shot dead in LA four months after winning a Grammy Award.
The musician, real name Leslie André Wakefield Jr., was just 26 years old when he was gunned down in a shooting in the city last Friday.
He was in a car with male companion when a gunman in another vehicle opened fire on them.
Wakefield is said to have suffered several gunshots wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to KTLA.com.
The other victim is believed to be in a stable condition in hospital.
While LA Police Department didn’t divulge any information on suspects, an officer revealed that the attack could be gang related.
However, the producer’s grandfather told NBC Los Angeles: “All he did was go to work and come home. He didn’t belong to [a] gang or nothing like that”.
Vibe report that DJ Official had recently fathered a new-born son.
Following the tragic news of his passing, pals of DJ Official, who has also worked with Tyga and Chris Brown, flocked to send their condolences and remember him.
Singer Ty Dolla $ign wrote on Instagram: “How the f*** they gon’ take @prodbyofficial?
“Who the f*** was mad at my bro? A father, a successful producer, a solid homie who meant a lot to all of us…
“We had so much fun on this tour and every time I ran into u it was love and good vibes. LONG LIVE OFFICIAL.”
Meanwhile, record producer DJ Mustard added: “I’m beyond hurt I’m devastated I’m sick to my stomach I love you lil bro forever @prodbyofficial.”
