Forbes, an American business magazine, has released a list of the world’s highest-paid entertainers 2019. It is no brainer that some rappers who are well known for their lyrical prowess made it on the list.
Today, we highlight the top 5 richest rappers in the world.
Shawn Corey Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z made it to the list of the richest paid celebrities this year. The American rapper, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur, and record executive rose through the ranks to become arguably the number one richest rapper of our time.
As of October 2019, according to Forbes, Jay-Z is worth $1 billion (Sh100 billion). The superstar mints millions annually from his Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Ussé cognac, a joint venture with Bacardi.
The 49-year-old rapper, who is married to Beyoncé, is regarded as one of the world’s most significant cultural icons and has been a global figure in popular culture for over two decades.
- Dr. Dre
Born Andre Romelle Young, Dr. Dre clinches the second position in the list of top five highest-paid rappers. According to Forbes, Dr. Dre is now worth $800 million (Sh80 billion).
It is reported that the super-producer is still collecting compensation from the 2014 landmark Apple acquisition of Beats by Dre, along with income from his extensive back catalogue is enough to keep him on the list.
With several wise investment plans, Dr. Dre might jump to the billionaires club real soon.
Call him Puff Daddy, P Diddy, Puffy, or Diddy, Sean John Combs is indeed a hard worker. According to the rapper, he started his business career at the age of just 12 as a newspaper delivery guy.
Fast forward, the now 49-year-old American rapper first appeared on Forbes list on their top 40 of entrepreneurs under 40 in 2002. His net worth is currently estimated at $740 million (Sh74 billion), thanks to Ciroc, the main driver of his fortune.
In addition, Combs is the head of Combs Enterprises, an umbrella company for his portfolio of businesses. He is also the designer of the Dallas Mavericks alternate jersey.
- Kanye West
Kanye Omari West has been described as outspoken and is prone to controversy. Nevertheless, Forbes ranks the father of four on the fourth position on the rappers richest list 2019.
Kanye is estimated to be worth $240 million (Sh24 billion). A one-time protégé of Jay-Z, the super-producer has been making headlines recently for his Sunday Service, an invitation-only get-together mostly in Southern California that is reportedly frequented by the likes of Courtney Love and Tyler the Creator.
Forbes reports that despite declaring himself $53 million (Sh5.3 billion) in debt and beseeching Mark Zuckerberg for $1 billion (Sh100 billion) to fund future creations in 2016, West makes his debut on this list thanks to another patron: Adidas, which lured West and his Yeezy shoe line from Nike several years ago.
The Canadian rapper became the newest addition to the top five club of the wealthiest musicians in the world in 2017. According to Forbes, the 32-year-old is the youngest on this list by a decade, but he’s quickly gaining ground on hip-hop’s veterans.
Forbes says that Drake is worth $150 million (Sh15 billion). It is reported that his fortune is boosted by holdings ranging from real estate to his Virginia Black whiskey, as well as a lucrative tour and new residency at the XS Nightclub in Las Vegas.
