First Words from Former Ivory Coast’s First Lady, Simone Gbagbo: “This is good news”

Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara has pardoned former first lady Simone Gbagbo after 7 years in detention . According to one of Laurent Gbagbo’s lawyers, Simone Gbagbo welcomed the decision. “This is good news,” she said to the lawyer who made the trip to the gendarmerie school (place of his imprisonment) to inform him.


According to Simone Gbagbo’s lawyer, the first lady could return to her family on Wednesday (Tuesday is a holiday).

Simone was sentenced to 20 years in prison for “attacking the authority of the State, participation in an insurrectional movement and disturbing public order”.
