FIFA Council!! Here Are The Seven African Candidates Vying For Spots

Seven African candidates are vying for two seats on the newly reformed FIFA council which was created under new President Gianni Infantino.

The seven African candidates all of whom are hoping to be picked to give more representation to Africa on the FIFA Council have been extensively selected from across the continent.

The seven candidates are Suketu Patel who was CAF’s first vice president, Guinean Almamy Kabele Camara , Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi, Madagascar Football Association president, Ahmad.

The list also includes Hamidou Djibrilla, Augustin Senghor, and Chabur Goc Alei who are  heads of the football associations in Niger, Senegal, and South Sudan.

These new seats follow a reform by president Gianni Infantino which grants Africa two extra seats on the FIFA council. The seven candidates will be exposed to check-ups that would test their integrity.

The two choice members will be decided during CAF’s general meeting in Cairo on September 29. The meeting which was set up not only to decide on who the new occupants of the seat will be, but also to initiate new statutes .

The FIFA Council is a modified Executive Committee which was active during Sepp Blatter’s administration. The Executive Committee was the second highest-ranking body in FIFA which made decisions that had an overall influence on football around the world.

Also, unlike the previous administration’s Executive Committee, the FIFA Council will have 12 more members. The FIFA Council will hold its first meeting in Zurich, Switzerland on Oct. 13-14

The new members will be on the FIFA Council until March 2017 when another election will be conducted at the CAF congress meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
