Fear of the West? Russia Remains Quiet While Bombing Syria

On the night of 13 to 14 April, Washington, Paris and London carried out their threats and carried out strikes against the Syrian authorities, in response to the alleged chemical attack in Ghouta, which these countries attribute to Damascus.

“I ordered the United States armed forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad’s capabilities in chemical weapons,” said US President Donald Trump. “A combined operation is now underway with France and the United Kingdom, we thank them both,” he added. The French General Staff entrusted the bombing mission to several Rafale fighters, according to a video broadcast by the Elysée and the Minister of Armies Florence Parly.

French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that the French strikes were “limited to the capabilities of the Syrian regime for the production and use of chemical weapons”.

The leaders of these three Western countries justify their strikes with allegations of use of chemical weapons aimed at Damascus. They rely, to accuse the Syrian authorities, on the controversial organization of the White Helmets, which had denounced a resort to chlorine, which was immediately denied by the Syrian public media. The equally controversial Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), for its part, reported dozens of cases of suffocation, including some mortals, without however pronounce on the use or not of chemical weapons. Moscow, however, claims to have “irrefutable evidence” of staging this alleged chemical attack in Ghouta.

A year ago, the US president had already bombed in April 2017 a base of the Syrian army in retaliation for a chemical incident attributed by Westerners in Damascus, Khan Cheikhoun, in northwestern Syria .

Heavy explosions were heard before dawn in Damascus on April 14, the center of power of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, overflown by planes, said a correspondent of AFP. According to General Joe Dunford, US Chief of Staff, Western forces targeted three targets related to the alleged Syrian chemical weapons program, one near Damascus and the other two in the area of Homs, in the center. from Syria. Syrian public television reported that a research center in the Barzé neighborhood in north-eastern Damascus had been targeted.

Public television reports that Syrian anti-aircraft defense has come into action against “American, British and French aggression”.
