“A Different World” co-stars Lisa Bonet and Cree Summer have always been close; so much so that Bonet named Summer as godmother to her and musician Lenny Kravitz’s daughter, Zoë Kravitz. Summer and Zoë share a close bond as well, as the “Divergent” series actress describes her godmother as “a strong woman who wrote intelligent, fun music. I’ve always been really inspired by her.”
The “Home Alone” star is the godfather to Michael Jackson’s son, Prince Michael Joseph Jr., and his daughter, Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson. Who would’ve thought?
Late actress Elizabeth Taylor was also godmother to Jackson’s kids.
Oprah Winfrey and Cicely Tyson
The billion-dollar media mogul and legendary actress are both godmothers to Tyler Perry’s two-year-old son, Aman Tyler Bekele-Perry. The popular playwright thanked both women in a heartfelt post on his Facebook page following his son’s lavish christening in 2015.
“What a special day,” Perry wrote. “Thank you Oprah, Oliver [Ripley, the godfather] and Cicely. I know my son has great godparents. To be born in love is a beautiful thing.”
In an interview on ‘The Wendy Williams Show,” actor Ben Vereen spilled the details on his famous godson, singer Usher Raymond. Vereen said he became Usher’s godfather when he met the singer as a youth and saw that he needed a father figure in his life.
“[He’s] a good kid,” Vereen told the Huffington Post later that year. “He’s doing great work in the world. He keeps his fingers on the pulse on what’s happening.”
British singer Elton John appointed Lady Gaga as godmother to his first son, Zachary, and then his second son, Elijah, with partner William Furnish.
“She’s a great role model, she’s young, [and] she’s been a great godmother to Zachary,” John said of the “Born This Way” singer. “We’re all bonkers in this business — but we’re human beings at the same time.”
Sugar Ray Leonard
Despite rumors that former footballer O.J. Simpson is her godfather, it turns out legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard is actually godfather to “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star Khloe Kardashian. Kardashian took to Twitter in 2014 to blast those who mistook Leonard for Simpson in a photo she posted to Instagram for “Throwback Thursday.
“For those of you that are that f—ing stupid…. That’s NOT OJ in my #TBT that’s Sugar Ray Leonard,” she tweeted. “Some of you never fail to amaze me!”
