“The short answer is duty and resilience. It is not out of the ordinary for soldiers and airmen, especially for MP and security forces units to sleep when and wherever possible to maintain vigilance at their posts,” National Guard Bureau spokesman Air Force Maj. Matt Murphy told Connecting Vets Wednesday morning, when asked why they were sleeping in the building.

Up to 15,000 units have been approved for use at the Capitol on Wednesday.

This is coming after the insurrectionists vowed to stage protests in all 50 state capitals as well as the United States Capitol. Many have also reportedly promised violence.
