Jharrel Jerome brought the house down when he won the Emmy for Best Actor in a Limited Series for his portrayal of Korey Wise in Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us.

Everyone seemed overjoyed to see Jharrel Jerome win Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, including Korey Wise, the real man portrayed on screen.  Other “Central Park 5” boys – now men – also stood to give Jerome a clapping ovation as he walked to the stage after his mother gave him a big hug. He also hugged his on-screen mother, Niecy Nash.

Jerome beat out other nominees Mahershala Ali (True Detective), Benicio Del Toro (Escape at Dannemora), Hugh Grant (A Very English Scandal), Jared Harris (Chernobyl) and Sam Rockwell (Fosse/Verdon).

During his speech, Jerome thanked his parents and team, Jerome took a moment to celebrate the real men behind When They See Us.
