Egypt: A Lawyer Gets 10 Years In Prison For Insulting The President On Facebook!!

Human rights organizations condemn the 10-year prison sentence imposed on an Egyptian lawyer convicted by the judiciary for insulting President Abdul Fattah al-Sissi on Facebook.

According to BBC, Mohammed Ramadan was also accused of using social media to incite violence. The lawyer received five more years of house arrest and is prohibited from using social media during this period. The NGO Amnesty International describes this as an outrageous attack on freedom of expression.

Ramadan was arrested while supporting human rights activists and “political prisoners”. A human rights defender told the BBC that he expected the situation to worsen in the future.
