Eddie Murphy’s Brother, Comedian Charlie Murphy Dead At 57 After Leukemia Battle!!

Charlie Murphy, Eddie Murphy‘s older brother, and a very successful and popular stand-up comedian in his own right has died … according to TMZ.

According to Charlie’s manager, he died from leukemia Wednesday morning in a NYC hospital. He’d been going undergoing chemotherapy. Family members tell us they’re absolutely shocked because they thought he was getting better.

Charlie famously co-starred on “Chappelle’s Show” in some of Dave’s most memorable skits … including the nights Charlie partied with Rick James and Prince.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1959, Charlie would go on to become a successful actor and comedian. Before breaking into the entertainment world, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1978 and served for six years.

Charlie, like his brother, made a name for himself in comedy. One of his most famous appearances was in a skit on “Chappelle’s Show,” about the night he partied with Prince. Many of his sketches on the show were among its most memorable.

Aside from his work on “Chappelle’s Show,” Charlie also co-wrote a couple of movies starring Eddie, including “Vampire in Brooklyn” and “Norbit,” and appeared in some films himself (”The Boondocks,” “Are We There Yet?”). In the late ’80s, Charlie had a brief career in rap, working behind the scenes as a songwriter with the K-9 Posse.

In 1997, the actor and comedian married Tisha Taylor, with whom he has two children; he also has another child from a previous relationship. Taylor died in 2009 following her own battle with cancer.

That same year, Charlie launched a comedy series on the Crackle.com video network, titled, “Charlie Murphy’s Crash Comedy,” and in 2010, his first stand-up special, “Charlie Murphy: I Will Not Apologize,” premiered on Comedy Central.

Most recently, he was touring with Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley as part of “The Comedy Get Down Tour.”
