The Reuters news agency reports that President Tshisekedi was taken to a chair and brought a glass of water.

After about ten minutes, the president returned to the podium and explained that his discomfort was due to the fatigue of the election campaign and the emotion.

“The campaign we had to carry out and the preparation work were right for me. I apologize to the President of the Republic and our distinguished guests, “said Tshisekedi

The new president, 55, is the son of the long-time Congolese opposition leader and heads the opposition UDPS party. His inauguration marks the first peaceful transfer of power.

He was declared the winner of the December 30 election, which was postponed several times. Martin Fayulu disputed the results, saying that Kabila had conspired with the electoral commission to give Felix Tshisekedi victory.
