Disgraceful!! Brexit Forerunner, Boris Johnson Commits More Blunders; Calls Africa A Country!!

On the afternoon of Sunday, the British politician Boris Johnson rendered his first speech as Foreign Secretary to the Conservative Party.

In his speech, the foreign secretary stated that there has been an increase in the life expectancy rates of African countries. He went further to give the credit for that to UK foreign aids.

It was a point of worry as a matter of fact during the Brexit division in the UK, that their pull out from the EU will affect the trade, aid and diplomacy in Africa.

While noting the above, Boris Johnson referred to the entire African continent as a country.

“Life expectancy in Africa has risen astonishingly as that country has entered the global economic system.”

Boris Johnson’s blunder did not go unnoticed because the British politician seems to have a controversial way of addressing the African continent.

Johnson had inappropriately suggested that Africa is better off a “colony”.

“The best fate for Africa would be if the old colonial powers, or their citizens, scrambled once again in her direction; on the understanding that this time they will not be asked to feel guilty.”

2002, he also ridiculed Africa saying that many of the people in African countries are like“flag-waving piccaninnies” whenever the Queen visits.

Many have not taken the latest blunder lightly. Moreso when it was his debut speech as the Foreign Secretary of the conservative party.

Johnson’s job description is to cultivate relations with other countries. Unfortunately with his subsequent remarks about Africa, it does not seem like Africa has much of a mutually beneficial future with the UK.

One of the fears about Brexit for Africans and other foreigners in the UK is the increase in xenophobic tendencies.

It is worthy to mention that the leading cause for Brexit is targeted on immigrants and job creation.

On that note, Boris Johnson shared his optimism that as the world gets “less safe, more dangerous, more worrying”, UK will always lead in “lifting the world out of poverty”. He says the UK is still persistent in establishing a global free market.

On the state of affairs in Aleppo, Syria, Boris Johnson blames Russia for the growing instability in the country.

“Russia is deliberately aiding the bombing of hospitals in Syria, committing war crimes that will make it impossible for peace negotiations to begin.”
