Cristiano Ronaldo is convinced he should have won the Golden Ball this year, rather than finishing second behind his former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric.
Luka Modric won the prestigious award after a third consecutive victory in the Champions League and a brilliant performance at the 2018 World Cup.
The Juventus striker, also the winner of the Champions League with Real believes he was the most deserving.
“I think I deserve the Golden Ball every year,” Ronaldo said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Gazetta dello Sport.
“I work for that, but if I do not win, it’s not the end of the world. The numbers do not lie, but do not think I’m less happy if I do not win. I have fantastic friends and family, I play in one of the best clubs, do you think I’ll go home and cry? I am disappointed, but life goes on and I will continue to work hard. “
The Portuguese nevertheless congratulated Luka Modric for his Golden Ball. “I want to congratulate Luka Modric, he deserved it, but next year, we’ll meet again and I’ll be back in the race,” he said.
