COVID-19: Number Of Cases Worldwide Surpasses 28 million

The worldwide number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has surpassed 28 million, Johns Hopkins University says.
The exact number of the coronavirus cases stood at 28,047,828 on Friday.
More than 907,000 people have died of the disease, the university added.

Over 908 000 people have died worldwide from COVID-19 related illnesses.

The World Health Organisation declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11.
The biggest number of cases so far has been registered in the United States, India and Brazil.

The United States remains the country with the most cases, having recorded over 6.3 million infections and 191 000 COVID-19 related deaths.

India has recorded over 90 000 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total above that of Brazil.

The country now has the second-largest number of confirmed cases in the world of over 4.2 million.
