Melinda Gates, wife of global billionaire Bill Gates, said developing countries, including those in Africa, would be severely affected by the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
She told the American news channel CNN that the African continent will suffer great consequences if the pandemic reaches a peak in the same way as in Europe, America and Asia.
The billionaire’s wife warned Africans against the global crisis.
“COVID-19 will be horrible in the developing world,” she said.
“My heart is in Africa. I’m worried. The only reason why the number of coronavirus cases reported in Africa is currently low is most likely due to the fact that there have been no extensive tests on people. The disease will bite hard on the continent. I see corpses on the streets of Africa, ”said Melinda.
But netizens say it should keep its negative words away from Africa.
She feared that things would get worse in Africa once cases peaked due to poor health systems and lack of humanitarian support.
Melinda Gates said that her worst nightmare was when she “saw what China had to do to isolate a huge part of its population.” My first thought was Africa. How the hell are they going to deal with this? ”
“I have been in cities all over Africa and in slums. When we speak in a country of physical distancing and hand washing, if you live in slums that cannot physically distance you, you have to go out and have your meals. You don’t have clean water to wash your hands, ”she added.
She continued: “This is going to be horrible in developing countries and one of the reasons you see that the numbers of cases don’t seem very bad is that they don’t have access to very many tests. ”
Melinda Gates then referred to reports of corpses on the streets of Ecuador and said, “You are going to see this in Africa.”
Africa recorded at least 13,686 cases as of April 12, 2020, with 744 deaths and 2,283 cured.
