Boxing legend Muhammad Ali letter to South African Icon Nelson Mandela sells for $ 8,991

A letter from Mohammed Ali sent to South Africa’s anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and President Nelson Mandela in 1993 has been sold off at an auction in England to a US collector.

Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said: “It’s fair to say Mohammad Ali was the greatest sportsman of all time and Nelson Mandela was one of the greatest figures of the last century.”

In the letter, Muhammad Ali offers his condolences to Nelson Mandela on the death of an anti-apartheid leader.


“It is a truly iconic cross collectable and will appeal to collectors of Ali memorabilia as well as those who collect Nelson Mandela material, items relating to apartheid, political history and collectors of iconic memorabilia,” Mr Aldridge added.

According to the auctioneer Muhammad Ali arroved in South Africa in April 1993, shortly after Chris Hani, the chief of staff of Umkhonto We Sizwe, the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC) was assassinated, reports BBC.
