Botswana: Ian Khama’s Former Director Of Intelligence Handcuffed At Gaborone Airport

In an apparent sustained effort at breaking away from the ‘shackles’ and influence of former Botswana President Ian Khama, current President Mokgweetsi Masisi seems to be tightening his grip on power by going after former officials of his predecessor.

Yesterday the former Director of the Dreaded Intelligence (DIC) who used to terrorise opponents and Citizens was arrested at the Airport in Gaborone. The former strongman spent his first night in cells on allegations of abuse of Authority and corruption. The same juniors he was commanding handcuffed him.

The former Director complained to the arresting officers who are his former juniors that they were bent on of embarrassing him by publicly arresting and handcuffing him in in full view of reporters and ordinary members of the public and that he would single handedly bring down the Botswana Government.

The uncompromising DIC officers however led him away from the airport terminal in waiting cars to the Police station where he spent the night awaiting an appearance before court today.
