American Pop singer Janet Jackson received the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last Sunday.

The 52-year-old singer became the first black woman to receive this honor. She received her award from Bruno Mars who knelt down as a sign of respect for Janet Jackson’s spectacular career.

“The name Jackson represents undeniable artistic genius,” said Bruno Mars. “The Jackson are the royalty of music and the first family of entertainment … She is an activist … It’s humanitarian. She is a powerful woman. And she is the first black woman to receive the Icon Award, “he added.

In her thank you speech, Janet Jackson paid tribute to the women.

“I am deeply touched and grateful for this award. I believe that for all challenges, for all our challenges, we live in a glorious moment of history.

“This is a time when, finally, women have made it clear that we will no longer be controlled, manipulated or abused. I support those women and men who are indignant about the discrimination we face. ”

Janet Jackson has joined Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion and Cher in the list of singers who received the Icon Award.
