Beninese Singer Angelique Kidjo: “African Men Are Machos”

The Beninese singer Angélique Kidjo considers that inequalities related to gender can only be solved if parents in Africa ensure that boys and girls enjoy the same rights.

She describes African men as machos against whom strikes must be held if they disagree with gender equality in their own families.

In an interview with the BBC on the occasion of the celebration of International Women’s Day, the Grammy Award winner argues that women must set rules at home and end the relationship that the girl needs to clean and prepare the meal.

Angelique Kidjo is an ambassador for UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund.
