Benin: Presidency To Stop Paying Utility Bills For Ex-Presidents

Presidency in Benin has said it will not pay the utility bills of former heads of state henceforth, reports the BBC.

The presidency stated that all the former presidents residing in Benin should endavour to pay their own bills using other allowances they receive.

Some people in the commercial capital, Cotonou, criticized the move saying that it was undignified for former presidents to have to pay their own water, phone and electricity bills.

In many other African countries it’s a norm that ex-heads of state receive perks including housing, cars and generous pensions.
