When you meet Ellen Ector for the first time, you would never guess that this beautiful and shapely fitness instructor has five adult children and four grandchildren. Ms. Ector is co-owner of Gymnetics, a special fitness studio dedicated to the empowerment of African American women who want to look and feel their best through exercise and nutrition.
For 20 years, Ms. Ector was a social worker. After giving birth to her fifth child, she gained a significant amount of weight and fell profoundly out of shape, so she decided to do something about it. It took her nine months to get back to a normal weight and many more months to get into amazing shape. During her journey towards getting in shape, Ms. Ector realized that the fitness industry paid little attention to the needs of African American women; that realization prompted her to reach out to develop an exercise program with women from her community in mind.
These days, Ms. Ector is 63 years old and looks better that many young girls still in their 20s. She is also very busy helping her fitness clients, who are average African American women inspired by the will, drive and wisdom of Ms. Ector. What do you think? Do you feel inspired by her?
