Young Vanessa was still studying chemical engineering at the Catholic University of Buea when her sick mother learned that she was suffering from diabetes. At the age of 20, the girl decides to spend all her free time looking for alternative therapies to her mother’s illness. During her work, she discovers a medicinal tree that grows in her region, the Moringa Oleifera. At the end of her research, she finds that the moringa leaves reduce the level of sugar in the blood, she begins to use them to treat her mother’s illness.
With the collaboration of the farmers, she transforms the leaves of Moringa into tea bags, and then gradually creates emerald Moringa. Today, this company markets Moringa tea throughout Cameroon, to the point where Vanessa Zommi is spotted by Forbes magazine, which ranked her on its 2016 list of the most promising young African entrepreneurs.
