Argentine Legend, Diego Maradona Resigns His Coaching Position in Al Fujairah, UAE

Argentine football legend Diego Maradona resigned last Friday as coach of UAE Premier League club Fujairah SC. The information was confirmed by his lawyer Matias Morla on Saturday.

The Argentine technician made his decision after conceding a draw (1-1) Friday against Khor Fakkan. “After the draw today and not having reached the goal of raising Al Fujairah, Diego Maradona will no longer coach the team,” wrote the lawyer on Twitter.

Fujairah SC drew 1-1 against Khorfakkan in their last league game of the season, which means Maradona will be third in the standings.


The council of the “Pibe de Oro” emphasizes that “the decision was made by mutual agreement” with the club to which he wishes “the best”. The 57-year-old Argentine took control of the United Arab Emirates club in May 2017. He also coached the Dubai Al Wasl football club from May 2011 to July 2012.

The former Argentine number 10 has been on the bench of the United Arab Emirates club for 22 matches. He won half and won as many draws, remaining unbeaten with Al Fujairah. Inadequate to fulfill his mission, since the team finished third in the second division of the UAE.

However, Fujairah SC still has the opportunity to reach the AGL if he beats the AGL Hatta in a two-round match next month scheduled for May 9 and 13, according to the Abu Dhabi Daily National.
