All You Need To Know About The New President Of African Football, Ahmad Ahmad

The new president of the Confederation of African Football Ahmad Ahmad who is from Madagascar was not really famous in football management but surprisingly succeeded in defeating Issa Hayatou.

Ahmad Ahmad has been representing the South zone in the executive committee of CAF since 2013.

The former Malagasy sports minister and senator is the president of Madagascar’s football Association where he is usually contested for his management.

He announced his candidature on January 13 in Libreville few hours before CAF’s executive committee withdrew the organisation of the under 17 AFCON from Madagascar due to poor preparation.

The move was interpreted by Hayatou critics as intimidation tactics towards his challenger.

The 57-year old had promised during his campaign that he wants to reform the administration and bring change to CAF which has been under the firm control of Cameroonian born Issa Hayatou for close to three decades.

Ahmad had been cited by London based Sunday Times for alleged corruption in the award of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

He was accused without proof of benefiting between 30.000 to 100.000 dollars in exchange for his vote for Qatar.
