After Nearly 3 Decades of Trying, Contestant Wins Big on Wheel of Fortune

Tracy McBride, who has been attempting to get on the Wheel of Fortune for 28 years, finally got her chance on Friday.

The Greenville mother disclosed to Pat Sajak, the program’s host, that she had been attempting to be on the show since she was twenty years old.

“I made it through faith and perseverance,” McBride told the studio audience as they cheered. The presenter quipped that he had also been waiting for her arrival, according to TV Insider.

McBride won $13,348 and a trip to the Bahamas. She also qualified for the Bonus round and chose the dreaded “Phrase” category. She finished as soon as the timer started.

When the prize envelope was opened, the presenter revealed she had won a new Ford Edge SEL worth $41,420, totaling $54,768 in cash and wins.

Fans of the show shared their joy on social media, with one saying, “I am so so happy she won she deserved it waiting 28 years and I love the comment that Pat said I’m not leaving till Tracy gets here God bless Tracy and Pat Sajak.”

Another added, “Excllent show today she waited 23 years and she was the luckiest one.”

One fan shared her own experience in the comments noting, “auditioned 18 times in 7 years..(went THRU being picked to come in stage at the Wheelmobile events in 3 different states)…for 17 total auditions in 8 years, and FINALLY got picked in 2017!! Dream of a lifetime came true! So yes, perseverance and determination DOES pay off!”
