Africa’s Seventh Richest Man Naguib Sawiris Expresses Love for Chinese Films

Africa’s seventh riches man, Naguib Sawiris, says he is a “big fan of Chinese movies,” and that they give him an idea about Chinese culture.

The 65-year-old billionaire is the founder of the of Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival (GFF), an annual event established in 2017.

“I love Chinese movies, especially action films,” said Sawiris during the opening of the third edition of GFF which kicked off late on Thursday night in Egypt’s Red Sea resort town of El Gouna.

The business tycoon said he has watched most of the famous Chinese action movies, adding that his most favorite Chinese film is “A Flying Arrow” which was directed by Gao Feng.

“I try to watch Chinese movies whenever I get the chance because they give me an idea about the Chinese culture and traditions,” he revealed.

He expressed admiration for Chinese filmmakers and producers for their techniques, noting that he is “a big fan of Chinese cinema.”

Naguib is ranked as the seventh richest person by Forbes, placing second in Egypt’s rich list after his brother Nassef Sawiris.

The GFF has grown to become one of the leading film festivals in the region and aims to showcase a wide variety of films for a passionate and knowledgeable audience while fostering better communication between cultures through the art of filmmaking.

Other than showcasing films, GFF also includes industry-oriented events to support and empower Arab filmmakers and help them find artistic and financial support.
