How This 9-Year Old Entrepreneur Landed A Million Dollar Contract With Whole Foods

Just how did a 9-year old girl manage to land coveted shelf space and a million dollar contract with Whole Foods? It all started with a sting by bees. After which Mikaila Ulmer, age 9 got interested in bees and the family started researching.

Little did she know that this would be the business she would pursue. Now Mikaila is proud CEO of Bee Sweet Lemonade.

She also got some funding to the tune of US$60 000 from Shark Tank.

This isn’t your everyday lemonade stand, and “Shark Tank” investor and FUBU CEO Daymond John noticed.

He said: “Partnering with Mikaila made perfect sense […] She’s a great kid with a head for business and branding. She’s got a great idea and I’m happy to help take BeeSweet to the next level.”

The millionaire businessman invested $60,000 in this unique beverage company.

What sets Ulmer’s lemonade apart is her Great Granny Helen’s flaxseed recipe that uses honey to sweeten the drink rather than sugar or artificial sweeteners.

The Austin-based pre-teen is fascinated with bees and the impact they have on the ecosystem. She decided to make the honey-bee a major focus of her small business.

A portion of the profits of BeeSweet lemonade go to organizations fighting to save the honey-bee — and the well-spoken businesswoman is really passionate about what she does.

“The courage to meet new people or speak in front of people- then you have passion. Because the more passionate you are about what you do the better you’ll do it and the more fun you’ll have while doing it. And you need to have perseverance to make your business bigger and better.”

Ulmer says having her new “Shark Tank” partner “is a great opportunity to have more people try [her] lemonade and save even more bees.”
