No woman in the world wants to be single and look after a child on her own. Being abandoned and having to fight everyday to live is never a mother’s dream.
But when a father is absent, the weight of the world falls on the shoulders of the mother. She has to face enormous difficulties just to give a good education to her children. Several great footballers were raised by strong and courageous single mothers and they were the source of their success.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the great footballers whose father has contributed almost nothing to his success. Ronaldo’s father was a drunkard and the player was raised by his mother Maria Doleres. The latter had revealed that she wanted to abort when she became pregnant with the player. Today, thanks to the sacrifices of his mother, Ronaldo is a legend of football.
2. Memphis Depay
The former Manchester United player, Memphis Depay is one of the footballers who were raised by a single mother. His father abandoned him when he was only four years old. Memphis said in a recent interview that he owes his success to his mother.
3. Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez was abandoned by his father shortly after his birth. Left alone to care for her child, Alexis Sanchez’s mother traveled miles every day to sell fish to make a living. At a young age, Alexis Sanchez washed cars and tumbled around the neighborhood to help his mother.
4. Arturo Vidal
The Chilean never received the support of his father who abandoned him when he was five years old. He was raised by his mother, Jacqueline Pardo. In 2011, his father was arrested for drug trafficking.
