– Abigail and husband left native Ghana in 2010 for the UK
– The couple got doctors and nurses at BRI shocked for hours on delivery of their new twins
– Doctors kept wondering if the couple were not on fertility enhancement therapy
A Ghanaian woman, Abigail Abu-Adama put nurses and hospital staff at Bradford Royal Infirmary, in the UK, into a state of shock when she gave birth to her third consecutive set of twins.
The 30-year old Abigail is said to have upset the odds of 500,000 to one by giving birth to her third set of twins who are female.
Abigail and her husband Shaibu Abu-Adama who moved to the UK from Ghana in 2010 already have a pair of four-year-olds and a pair of 18-month-old twins in the family.
The couple who live in Tyersal, UK said they were shocked when they found out they were expecting another set of twins.
“We thought we were done with two sets, and then all of a sudden I realised I was pregnant again; it was a big shock and I cried because I was not expecting it.
“The other kids are so happy to have two new baby sisters and could not wait to see them for the first time”, an emotional Abigail said.
Her husband Abu-Adama, who works as a customer service officer in Leeds, said that the whole family was feeling blessed, and full of excitement even though they were surprised initially.
“The other children have been telling their friends at Fearnville School about their new sisters and said they look gorgeous,” he said.
Doctors at the BRI expressed shock and disbelief and questioned the couple if they had been on any fertility enhancement therapy.
He said: “The doctors cannot believe our run of twins, they ask if we have had any fertility treatment but we have had none at all.
Mrs Adama said that all the nurses and midwives at the Women and Newborn Unit at BRI were shocked to find out it was her third set of twins.
“They all wanted to come and see me and the babies, and said I should be in the Guinness Book of Records,” she said.
But her inroads into the Guinness records books will be one hard task as the current record is held by Valentina Vassilyeva, a Russian peasant who mothered 16 sets of twins in the 18th Century.
However, Abigail says the three sets of twins is enough for now and are only thinking about names that have something to do with giving thanks to God.
