2018 Election!! Meet The Two Powerful Zimbabweans; Mujuru And Tsvangirai, Who Are Set To Topple President Mugabe!

Two of the top rivals of President Mugabe, Morgan Tsvangirai, and Joice Mujuru have announced that they will be working together to create a Zimbabwean opposition coalition that will deny President Mugabe another four years as the leader of the country.

Both leaders had previously served under the Mugabe administration at a point in their political careers.

Tsvangirai was Prime Minister of Zimbabwe between 2009 and 2013 while Joice Mujuru was Vice President of Zimbabwe from 2004 to 2014. Both leaders plan to create a coalition government to bring change in Zimbabwe.

“This is just the beginning of the building blocks towards establishing a broad alliance to confront ZANU PF between now and the next election in 2018,” Tsvangirai said, referring to the party led by Africa’s oldest leader.

President Mugabe, a revolutionary who helped fight against colonial rule in Zimbabwe has been the leader of the southern African country since their independence from Britain in 1980. He first served as Prime Minister in 1980, became President in 1987 and has since been President.

Despite turning 93 in February, his party the ZANU-PF still appointed him to be their flag-bearer in the upcoming 2018 Presidential elections.

Morgan Tsvangirai is noted as Mugabe’s top opposition leader. He’s the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai, a faction of the MDC party which was pro-Tsvangirai when the MDC wondered whether to go ahead with the 65-year-old as their flagbearer. He has, however, lost against the nonagenarian three times.

Joice Mujuru who created the new National People First was an ally of Mugabe who served as Vice President for a decade. She was sacked in 2014 on accusations by the First Lady who alleged that Mujuru had plans to kill Mugabe as well as topple his government.

Although the Zimbabwean opposition coalition at this stage involves Mujuru and Tsvangirai, they hope to get other opposition parties involved in the alliance. Mujuru added that the coalition had been deliberated on during the past 6 months and particular details regarding the coalition will now be negotiated to improve its efficiency.
