In India, generally the cost of production of films, does not exceed 25 million US dollars. But recently an Indian billionaire based in the Gulf has decided to reverse this trend. This rich man plans to finance the most expensive film in the history of India by investing $ 150 million in a film about the Hindu epic “Mahabharata”. The cost of this large, two-part production will far exceed the current record holder ,  “Baahubali” , whose production of the two films required about $ 45 million. 

“I believe this film will not only impose new world standards,”  but will also demonstrate India’s “mythological narrative prowess,” said businessman BR Shetty in a statement Monday night.

The billionaire, who lives in the United Arab Emirates, says he hopes to see the feature film “adapted in more than 100 languages ​​and reach more than three billion people around the world”.

Production is expected to start in September 2018 and will be filmed in English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. “Randamoozham” will be an adaptation of the novel of the same name by MT Vasudevan Nair, an award-winning author of Malayalam, who will also screen the film.

This will be Shrikumar Menon’s second film. According to a press release, the cast and crew “include some of the big names in the world cinema, including  some winners of the Academy. The cast will have the best of the talents of Indian cinema as well as big Hollywood names “.

Although Indian production budgets are increasing, they are still far from Hollywood levels, where a large production can cost more than $ 200 million.
