11-Year-Old Fatally Hit By Car While Trick-Or-Treating On Halloween

Authorities in Atlanta said an 11-year-old boy was fatally hit by a car while he was out trick-or-treating with his friends on Halloween night. According to 11Alive, the tragic incident happened around Memorial Drive in the East Lake neighborhood.

Police said the deceased minor, identified as Devonne David, was standing on a sidewalk with other children when he attempted crossing the street. He was, however, hit by a vehicle. The unfortunate incident was witnessed by a resident who rushed to his aid.

“I had my nephew run in the house to get him a blanket over him and I’m talking to him saying ‘come on little man’ you’re going to be alright,” A. Wesley Fulton recalled. Devonne was transported to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Residents who spoke with the news outlet said this isn’t the first time an accident of such nature happened. “The 22-years that I’ve been in the house, I’ve seen some horrific accidents. Head-ons and everything in between,” a resident said.

Residents also said the crosswalk the accident occurred is dangerous, and they’ve been worried about a car hitting a child for years, WSB-TV reported. A tree has reportedly blocked the pedestrian sign and there’s none on the opposite side of the road.

“I almost would say we need an LED light at this location, because this is where everybody crosses,” Fulton said. “For many months and years, I’ve been trying to get them to come replace the signs. Everybody’s mailbox is turned sideways because everybody’s mailbox got hit.”

The driver who hit Devonne remained at the scene. Police said it’s likely charges won’t be brought against the driver. “The driver cried on the ground for at least two hours,” Fulton recalled.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe has been set up to help raise funds to support Devonne’s family.
