The Russian president has chosen Shakespeare’s language to speak to young people at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi. A rare opportunity for Vladimir Putin, better known for his command of German than English.
“Future starts here and now, future is you! [The future begins here and now, the future is yours!] “Vladimir Putin decided in English to speak to the participants of the World Festival of Youth and Students, which took place from October 15th to 21st in the Sochi Olympic Park.
After a speech where he noted an exceptional atmosphere full of the “youth energy” of the Festival, the Russian leader wished his participants “all the best”.

Known for his good command of the German language, Vladimir Putin rarely uses English in public, which he also masters. In most cases, this is the case of promoting Russian sport and trade, as in 2007, when he personally presented Sochi’s candidacy for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
