In a statement released on Friday, Mnangagwa described the Mugabe as “residents of the past”. He also said the family was impeding the progress of Zimbabweans.
“I will not go anywhere. I will fight tooth and nail against those who mock the principles, ethics and values of Zanu PF, “said the former vice president.
“You (Mugabe) and your cohorts would leave Zanu PF by the will of the people and this we will do in the weeks to come because Zimbabweans in general now need new leaders.”
Mnangagwa insisted that he will soon return to Zimbabwe to lead the people. However, he gave no details of how he would proceed to remove Mugabe from power.
“By leaving this position for the moment, I encourage all loyal members of the party to stay in the party, to register for the elections, because we will very soon take the reins in our beautiful party and our country. May your hearts not be troubled, for peace, love, unity, development and prosperity are not far off. I will contact you soon and I will return to Zimbabwe to guide you, “he added.
Emmerson Mnangagwa will hold a press conference next week and could detail his strategy to oust Robert Mugabe.
